The Story: A Journey into Darkness

The story takes place in southern India in the 1600s. Back then, social rules were strict, and people believed in ghosts and spirits. Bramayugam follows Thevan, a former slave who escapes with his friend Koran. They seek shelter in the forest, but things go wrong when Koran falls for a mysterious woman who ends up killing him.

Alone and scared, Thevan stumbles upon a giant mansion deep in the woods. The owner is Mammootty’s character, Manakkal Kodumon Potti. Potti is a high-caste Brahmin, a very different social class from Thevan. Despite this, Potti welcomes Thevan and even lets him stay in the mansion. Thevan, a talented singer, performs a song for Potti, who is impressed.
