There have been rumors online that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali gets angry on set and throws phones at actors. Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who starred in Bhansali’s recent web series “Heeramandi,” says these rumors are completely untrue.
However, Sinha does acknowledge that Bhansali is a very demanding director. She says he pushes his actors to achieve the best possible performances, which can sometimes feel challenging. But Sinha also understands why Bhansali is so particular. She says his dedication to his craft is what creates such beautiful and impactful films.
Sonakshi Shares an Example from Set
Sinha shared a specific story from filming “Heeramandi” to illustrate Bhansali’s directing style. In one scene, her character experiences humiliation and anger. They filmed the scene multiple times, around 15 or 16 takes. Sinha felt they had captured a good performance after just a few takes, but Bhansali kept making adjustments and asking for more.
Since Sinha prefers to do fewer takes to avoid getting repetitive, she told Bhansali they probably had a good shot already. Bhansali then called her “lazy” for not wanting to do another take.
Sonakshi Respects Bhansali’s Methods
Even though Bhansali’s approach can be tough, Sinha says she respects it. She understands that his demanding nature is what helps him create such amazing films.
