Throwback Thursday: Controversial Life Of Yesteryear Sex Symbol Zeenat Aman & Her Infamous Love Story With Sanjay Khan….

Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman ruled the 70s as the sex symbol of the industry. The actress worked in more than 50 films over her career span and played a major role in giving a western look to Indian cinema.

But the professionally successful actress failed to achieve the same amount of success in her personal life. From having an abusive relationship with Sanjay Khan to turbulent love life Zeenat Aman never found love and peace in her personal life.

Zeenat was a teenager when her father died and her mother later went on to remarry a German man due to which they eventually moved to Germany. She later returned to India at the age of 18 and after returning back to the country she took the job of a journalist in a reputed Femina magazine.

Actress’ good looks further helped her to bag modeling contracts, and she was later spotted by the producers & made her Bollywood debut with the film Hulchul followed by Hungama. In no time she became one of the top actresses of that time.

Zeenat’s love life with Sanjay started in the 1970s when she was at the top of her career. The actress fell for Sanjay Khan, who at the time was already married and was a father to three kids. The lovebirds secretly tied the knot while shooting for the film in Jaisalmer. The news of their wedding was not hidden for long. The two separated their ways after excessive family pressure.

Sanjay called Zeenat to re-shoot the song of their film. The actress who at the time was shooting for another film went on to him but lesser did she know what was about to happen.
Zeenat left straight for his house, where she was told that he was attending a party at the Taj. She reached the hotel to discuss her dates. An inebriated Sanjay asked her why she had come to the hotel, while his wife Zarine sneered.

But even post-separation, Sanjay was often possessive of her and gave her a call whenever her love affair with other men made rounds in the media.
It all started when Zeenat was shooting in Lonavala. Sanjay called her up from Mumbai and angrily demanded that she leave everything and reshoot a portion of a song in Abdullah that had already been shot. When she reasoned that she had already given her dates to another film, he accused her of being sexually involved with the makers.

Zeenat, who had to return to Lonavala, wished to settle her dates with him without making a scene. Little did she know what would happen next. Apparently, Sanjay dragged her to the adjoining room and beat her up, lifting her hair and continuing to thrash her every time she fell.
At this point, Zarine entered and began cheering her husband on. “Give the bitch what she deserves,” she shouted, as she started attacking Zeenat as well.

All the guests knew what was happening, yet no one helped her. It was the steward who came to Zeenat’s rescue, who by now had blood and tears streaming down her face. Even as she required eight days of medical attention to recover from this beating, she did not report Sanjay to the police, as she was still in love with him.

Zeenat later fell in the arms of not so successful actor Mazhar Khan. But just a year down the line, Zeenat realized the grave mistake she had committed. In spite of marrying one of the most beautiful women in Bollywood, Mazhar continued to have unhindered extra-marital flings.

In 1997, Zeenat Aman filed for a divorce from Mazhar Khan and the two were granted their formal separation the same year.
