Bollywood Flashback: The Catfight Between Meenakshi and Amrita, Which Ended on a Hilarious Note!
February 14, 2022Right from the musical golden days of the 60’s era till date, catfights between two heroines have been one of the most common happenings in Bollywood. Though most of the fights occurred due to career rivalry or love triangles, there were also some very silly causes for fights between co-stars.
One such incident happened in the late 80s when Meenakshi Sheshadri was shooting for Mahesh Bhatt’s film Awaargi. Meenakshi was shooting for an important scene and at that moment she saw her rival Amrita Singh walking towards the sets. Amrita had come over to meet Mahesh Bhatt. She sat next to the meticulous director and began chit chatting. The laughter and loud chat started distracting Meenakshi due to which every shot she gave was being rejected. After a while, Mahesh decided to take a break and asked Meenakshi to rehearse hard. On her way to her makeup room Meenakshi bumped into Amrita and blamed her for distracting Mahesh Bhatt during the shoot. Amrita snapped back saying it was not Mahesh’s fault. She told Meenakshi to gear up her acting instead. Later a reporter who witnessed this kiddish fight, published the episode in his tabloid by recording Meenakshi’s version of the whole incident. Amrita, who was shocked to read that she was lobbying for a role in Mahesh’s next film, also gave her version of the whole incident and blamed Meenakshi for her poor acting skills.
During the time, the whole incident was blown out of proportion, to the extent that it became awkward for Amrita and Meenakshi to face each other. When the two ladies came face to face at a music launch party, people were expecting a huge showdown. Instead, Meenakshi walked towards Amrita and asked her the secret of her glowing skin. Amrita shared the cosmetic details with Meenakshi along with some beauty tips. Amrita also later mentioned that Meenakshi is a true admirer of beauty and knows how to appreciate it.
No one expected that this silly catfight to end on such a good note. Hilarious incident, isn’t it?
Fun Fact – Meenakshi Sheshadri and Amrita Singh both debuted in the year 1983 with Painter Babu & Betaab. Later, they worked together in two films Akayla & Toofan co-starring the superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
