At first, when director Om Raut offered him the role, Kelkar was amazed. Yet, he took the chance and participated in an audition and costume test. Seeing him dressed as Shivaji, everyone on the set was awestruck. For Kelkar, playing this powerful historical figure was a dream come true and a huge honor, especially as a Maratha actor himself.

Kelkar further shared his thoughts on playing Shivaji in another interview. He spoke about how the warrior has always been a source of inspiration for him. Since childhood, Kelkar has admired Shivaji’s life and legacy, and bringing him to life on screen felt incredibly meaningful.

Sharad had talked about the experience of playing the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in an interaction with the Mid-Day portal as well. She said,” Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been a source of inspiration for me since my childhood. His life and legacy have always fascinated me, and I have always felt a deep sense of pride in being associated with such a great historical figure. Playing the role of Shivaji Maharaj in `Tanhaji` was a dream come true for me, and it was an honour to bring his story to life on the big screen.”

Today, Kelkar is a well-known face in the entertainment industry. He continues to impress audiences with his acting skills and promises even more compelling performances in the future.
