The Kerala Story: A Movie Still Stirring Up Debate

A movie called “The Kerala Story” has caused a lot of arguments and disagreements, even though it came out almost a year ago. The movie is on Zee5 right now, and actress Adah Sharma is in it. There was a big fuss again recently when the movie was shown on Doordarshan, a popular Indian TV channel. People were upset because the movie had already caused problems before.

Here’s why there’s so much debate:

  • Religious leaders don’t like it. People who are important in religious communities in Kerala, like Imams (Muslim leaders), have spoken out against the movie. They say it’s trying to cause problems between different religions. They believe the movie isn’t true and only makes people fight. They think movies should bring people together, not make them angry.
  • The movie talks about something called “love jihad.” This is the idea that some Muslim men trick Hindu women into marrying them and then force them to convert to Islam. Religious leaders say this doesn’t really happen in India.
  • The movie was shown to teenagers. A group that takes care of churches in a place called Idukki decided to show “The Kerala Story” to teenagers as part of a training program. This made a lot of people in Kerala talk about the movie again.

What’s the Story About?

The movie tells the story of a woman named Shalini Unnikrishnan. She wants to be a nurse, but in college, she meets some Muslim people who seem friendly at first. They turn out to be extremists, and they trick her into joining a group called ISIS. ISIS is a dangerous terrorist organization. Shalini gets taken to Afghanistan and put in jail.
