Pratik Gandhi Talks Comedy, Success, and Playing Gandhi Again

Pratik Gandhi is on a roll! After his huge hit playing stockbroker Harshad Mehta in the web series “Scam 1992,” he’s now enjoying the success of his new comedy film “Madgaon Express.” In this interview, Pratik chats about venturing into comedy for the first time, his experience after “Scam 1992,” and what’s next for him.

Taking a Chance on Comedy

Interviewer: You haven’t done much comedy before. Why did you decide to do “Madgaon Express”?

Pratik: That’s exactly why I wanted to do it! It was something totally new for me, and the script was just fantastic. It felt like the perfect opportunity to jump into the comedy world.

Comedy vs. Drama: A Balancing Act

Interviewer: You’ve done a lot of serious and emotional roles in the past. Do you find comedy or drama easier to act?

Pratik: Honestly, I enjoy doing both. I’ve done a fair share of comedy on stage, and I love it. I think comedy is a powerful tool for expressing all sorts of feelings. Ideally, I’d like to keep doing both.

Beyond “Scam 1992”

Interviewer: You’ve been really successful on streaming platforms like Netflix. Do you ever feel like people only see you as Harshad Mehta from “Scam 1992”?

Pratik: I wouldn’t call it a stereotype. That character and series were just so impactful that it’s still fresh in everyone’s minds. People still call me by his name! But that just makes my job a little more exciting. Now I have the challenge of delivering another unforgettable character and building a new reputation for myself.

Thriving Under Pressure

Interviewer: Does the success of “Scam 1992” put pressure on you to deliver the same level of excellence in everything you do?

Pratik: Not at all! Instead, I turn that pressure into excitement. That’s actually one of the reasons I took on “Madgaon Express.” The positive response to the film and my character has only made me more confident about taking risks and trying new things.

Playing the Mahatma

Interviewer: You’re going to be portraying Mahatma Gandhi again in a new web series. How will your approach be different from when you played him in your Gujarati play?

Pratik: This time, we’re not focusing on making him a hero or a villain. We’re simply telling the story of a real person – Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. That’s the core of how we’re developing the character.

Upcoming Projects

Interviewer: When can we expect to see the Gandhi series?

Pratik: It’s still being filmed, so it will likely be a while before it’s released.

Interviewer: Can you share anything about your other upcoming projects?

Pratik: “Madgaon Express” is doing great in theaters right now, and my next film “Do Aur Do Pyaar” is coming out on April 19th! I also have another movie called “Agni” with Excel Entertainment, but the release date hasn’t been set yet. It should be out soon though!
