Diljit Dosanjh Was Sent Away From Home When He Was 11; Singer Says ‘My Connection With Parents Broke’
April 7, 2024Diljit Dosanjh is excited about his new movie “Chamkila” coming out on Netflix on April 12th. The movie is about a famous Punjabi singer named Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot, played by Parineeti Chopra. Diljit talked about his family life in a recent interview.
Diljit was born in a village in Punjab, but he was sent away to live with his uncle in the city when he was just 11 years old. He said his parents didn’t even ask him if he wanted to go!
“I lived in a small room by myself,” Diljit said. “I just went to school and came home. There was no TV, and there weren’t even cell phones back then. It was expensive to call my parents, so I didn’t talk to them much. That’s how I started to grow apart from my family.”
He said he respects his parents, but the move made them distant.
Diljit also talked about his role in the movie. He said he had to forget everything he knew about acting and start over to play this new character. It was challenging, but he thinks it’s a good thing for actors to be able to do that.
