Bio:
Asha Parekh was born in a middle-class Gujarati family to a Hindu father, Pranlal Parekh, and a Muslim mother Sudha Parekh in India. She was first spotted by film director Bimal Roy who cast her at the tender age of ten in Maa (1952). Later, film producer Sasadhar Mukherjee and writer-director Nasir Hussain launched her as the Heroine in Dil Deke Dekho (1959), which made her an overnight star. She also did supporting roles in films that got her Filmfare nominations as Best Supporting Actress for Udhar Ka Sindur (1976) and Raj Khoslaâs Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978), which won the Filmfare Award as the Best Film. Asha has maintained in her interviews that her favourite director Nasir Hussain was the only one and true love of her life. Since he was already married, she didnât want to break his family life and still remains unmarried. Currently, the actress devotes all her time to humanitarian efforts and has set up a dance academy âKara Bhavan,â which has produced many talented dancers.
