Sunny Deol Talks About Dyslexia

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, known for his iconic roles in Gadar and other films, has opened up about a personal struggle: dyslexia. He revealed that he was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child, which made learning and memorizing information difficult.

This explains why Sunny often uses a teleprompter during film shoots. He struggles to memorize lines traditionally, but still delivers powerful performances on screen.

Sunny’s story highlights the challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia, and his openness about the condition is encouraging and inspiring. It shows that dyslexia doesn’t define someone’s potential, and with determination and support, they can achieve great things.

Sunny made the revelation when he was talking about why he doesn’t believe in doing too much research for his characters. “Dad (Dharmendra) would do two-three shifts, sleep for a few hours and do films back-to-back. Aaj ke din mein koi aise karke dekhe. All this research actors do, I find all this gibberish. Considering this (the time spent doing it), all our films should have been great. Back then, what research did actors do
But they still played their characters beautifully. Characters were based on real life and real emotions,” Sunny told Bombay Times.

He continued, “If you are playing a biographical character, then it is different, but even then, in a film like Border, where I played Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, I didn’t imitate him. I took the soul of the character and did it in my own way. It’s not like I researched ki woh kaise chalta tha, kya karta tha. When I am doing a film, I don’t even have the dialogues with me. That is another thing – I am dyslexic, so I can’t read and write properly, and that has been my problem since childhood. Earlier, we didn’t know what it was, and people would think yeh duffer aadmi hai. I always get my dialogues in Hindi, and I take my time to read it. I read them many times and make them my own. That is my prep for the part.”

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol is all set to collaborate with director Rajkumar Santoshi after 27 years in ‘Lahore 1947’, which will be produced by Aamir Khan. The actor-director duo has worked together in massive hits like Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and Ghatak: Lethal (1996).

Sunny made a phenomenal comeback with Gadar 2 recently and he’s once again the hot property in Bollywood with a bunch of big-ticket films in his kitty.
