Sobhita Dhulipala Goes Hollywood

Sobhita Dhulipala, a well-known Indian actress, is making her debut in a Hollywood movie called Monkey Man. You might recognize her from popular Indian films like Ponniyin Selvan and the TV series Made in Heaven.

Monkey Man is a thrilling action movie directed by Dev Patel, who’s also the lead actor. Sobhita plays Sita, a woman who escorts powerful but bad people.

Sobhita talked about how much she enjoys playing complex characters like Sita. She said these characters are fascinating because they’re real people with many layers. She feels honored to be trusted with such roles and wants to be part of stories that have meaning.

What’s interesting is that Sobhita actually auditioned for the role of Sita even before her first Indian movie! Dev Patel saw her audition and knew years later that she was perfect for the part. He contacted her in 2019 to offer her the role.

Taking a chance on a new director’s first movie can be risky, especially for a Hollywood debut. But Sobhita said she and Dev Patel formed a strong connection based on trust, a little fear, and openness. They worked together closely as a team. She loved the energy and passion that comes with working with a first-time director and decided to join the project.

About Monkey Man

Monkey Man is inspired by the Hindu god Hanuman, known for his strength and loyalty. The story follows a man who wants revenge for his mother’s death. The movie was produced by famous actor and director Jordan Peele. This is also Dev Patel’s first time directing a film.

Originally, Monkey Man was supposed to be released online instead of in theaters. But things changed when Jordan Peele got involved. He liked the movie so much that he helped get it a theatrical release, which is a bigger deal. Dev Patel even said that Jordan Peele took the movie “from being ignored to being put on display.”

Monkey Man came out worldwide on April 5th. However, it’s still waiting for approval from a committee in India that decides if movies can be shown in theaters there.
