Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki Faces a Bumpy Landing at the Box Office

Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated film, Dunki, which hit the theatres on December 21st, has entered its third week, and unfortunately, it seems the honeymoon phase is over. After a strong start, the film is witnessing a decline in its earnings at the box office.

As per the latest reports, Dunki is expected to rake in a mere ₹1.65 crore on its 16th day, its lowest daily collection in India so far. This dip in earnings is reflected in the film’s overall occupancy rate, which stands at a modest 9.20% on Friday.

Despite the recent slowdown, Dunki has managed to cross a significant milestone. In its second week, the film entered the coveted ₹200 crore club in India, a testament to Shah Rukh Khan’s enduring popularity and the initial hype surrounding the movie.

What is Dunki all about?

Dunki is a comedy-drama that explores the concept of “donkey flights,” an illegal immigration technique where people are smuggled across borders in cargo planes under harsh conditions. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film boasts a stellar cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover.

Directed by the acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki promises to be a heartwarming story about friendship, overcoming borders, cherishing one’s homeland, and the power of love. The screenplay is a collaborative effort between Hirani, Abhijaat Joshi, and Kanika Dhillon. The film is backed by JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films.

While the initial buzz has subsided, Dunki’s journey is far from over. The film still has the potential to attract audiences with its unique theme, talented cast, and Rajkumar Hirani’s signature brand of humor and heart. However, the coming weeks will be crucial for the film’s performance at the box office.
