Big Screen to Streaming Service: Malayalam Movies Coming to OTT in June

June is a big month for Malayalam movies! In addition to films hitting theaters, many exciting titles are arriving on popular streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, JioCinema, and Disney+ Hotstar. Here’s a look at some of the Malayalam movies and web series you can enjoy from the comfort of your couch this June:

Varshangalkku Shesham (The Remainder of the Rain):

This movie tells the story of two friends, Venu and Murali, whose lives take different paths due to their contrasting passions. Venu loves theater, while Murali is drawn to music. The film follows their journeys over four decades in the vibrant city of Madras (now Chennai). We see their friendship evolve and face challenges against the backdrop of changing dreams and the complexities of life.

The movie stars Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead roles. They’re joined by a talented supporting cast including Nivin Pauly, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Vineeth Sreenivasan. Varshangalkku Shesham promises to be a heartwarming story with relatable characters, and it premieres on an OTT platform on June 7th, 2024.

Nadikar (Actor):

Looking for a laugh? Nadikar is a comedy-drama film directed by Lal Jr. and written by Suvin S. Somasekharan. It stars Tovino Thomas as a superstar facing some tough challenges in his career. The movie also features Divya Pillai, Soubin Shahir, and Bhavana.

Nadikar hit theaters in early May and received praise for the performances of the lead actors, the music, and the overall production quality. However, critics and audiences had mixed feelings about the story itself. Regardless, Nadikar is coming to an OTT platform soon, so you can decide for yourself if you enjoy it.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil (At the Guruvayoor Temple):

This comedy-drama film, directed by Vipin Das, was a box office hit and received positive reviews. It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Basil Joseph, Nikhila Vimal, and Anaswara Rajan. The story follows Vinu Ramachandran, who lives in Dubai and is engaged to Anjali. He’s still hung up on his ex-girlfriend, Parvathy, but his fiancee’s brother, Anand, helps him move on. There’s a hilarious twist when Vinu and Anand discover they’re both connected to the same Parvathy! Through some family drama, misunderstandings get cleared up, and everyone ends up happy. Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil will be available on OTT soon after its successful run in theaters.

Malayalee from India:

This political satire film, directed by Dijo Jose Antony, stars Nivin Pauly and Anaswara Rajan. It tackles social issues but received mixed to negative reviews and didn’t perform well at the box office. The story follows Gopi, a man who spends his time playing cricket and supporting a nationalist party in Kerala. After some violence, he’s sent to work abroad where he initially clashes with his Pakistani supervisor. Despite their differences, they eventually bond over shared experiences. The film explores themes of tolerance and understanding. Malayalee from India will be available on OTT soon, so you can form your own opinion about it.
