Alia Bhatt’s Deepfake Video Goes Viral: Here’s How Government Is Planning To Tackle The Problem
Days after central government revealed that they are planning new regulations that may impose penalties on both the creator and the platform hosting deepfake videos calling them a threat to democracy, now Alia Bhatt’s deepfake video has made to the internet.

Alia is the latest celebrity to fall victim to the AI-generated deepfake technology, which helps people manipulate or morph the visuals as well as the audio content and make it look like it is real.
In Alia Bhatt’s deepfake doing the rounds, Alia can be seen in dressed up in a blue floral co-ord set making obscene gestures to the camera.

Other celebrities who have fallen victim to deepfake technology
Deepfakes of celebrities have been there for quite some time now. However, after pan-India star Rashmika Mandanna, who will next bee seen in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal went viral, a lot of celebrities took a stand against it prompting the government to take action against it. But this hasn’t stopped people from using this technology for wrong things. Soon after, Katrina Kaif’s deepfake photo went viral and then Kajol also became a victim of the adverse effects of AI technology.

What is government doing?
A few days ago, Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw addressed the media and said, “Deep fake has emerged as a new threat in society. We need to take immediate steps. Today, a meeting was held with social media platforms. We’ve to focus on four aspects-detection, prevention, reporting mechanism of deep fake and awareness needs to be increased.”
The minister later said that the platforms have agreed on the need for detection, prevention as well as strengthening of reporting mechanisms that put a halt on circulation of deepfake videos and photos. In fact, Google in a statement has said that it is committed to responsible AI development and has robust policies and systems to identify and remove harmful content across its products and platforms.

“We appreciate the opportunity to meet with the government, jointly with industry stakeholders, to discuss the need to develop safeguards around synthetic content and share how we are are building tools and guardrails to address associated risks,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt’s deepfake video has once again raised concerns urging for prompt action.
