“Devara” Makes a Big Splash at the Box Office

The new action movie “Devara,” starring Jr NTR, has had a fantastic start in theaters. On its first day, it’s estimated to have earned a whopping Rs 140 crore (that’s about 168 million US dollars!) from ticket sales around the world. This makes it one of the biggest opening day successes for an Indian film.

Mixed Reviews, But Still a Hit

Even though some critics gave the movie mixed reviews (meaning some liked it, some didn’t), that didn’t stop people from rushing to see it. It seems like the excitement of seeing Jr NTR in a double role, along with the action-packed trailers, was enough to draw in huge crowds.

How Much Did It Make in India?

In India alone, “Devara” earned around Rs 77 crore (about 92 million US dollars) on its first day. Most of this came from the Telugu-speaking states, where the movie made Rs 68.6 crore. It also did well in Hindi-speaking areas, earning Rs 7 crore.

Packed Theaters

The movie was shown on over 7,000 screens worldwide. Many of these screenings were packed, especially in the Telugu states, where almost 80% of the seats were filled. This shows just how popular Jr NTR is and how much anticipation there was for this film.

Big Budget, Big Returns

Making “Devara” wasn’t cheap. It cost around Rs 300 crore (about 360 million US dollars) to produce, including the salaries of all the actors and the crew. But it seems like the producers are already seeing a good return on their investment, thanks to the strong opening day numbers.

What’s “Devara” About?

“Devara” is an action-packed story set in a coastal area. Jr NTR plays two characters: Devara, a strong and brave man, and his son Varada. The story revolves around fights for power and control in this region.

There’s a lot of action in the movie, starting with a scene where the police raid villagers who are stealing from ships. The story then moves to a place called Ratnagiri near the Red Sea, where different villages compete with each other in a contest called Sangram. This contest decides who gets to keep weapons for the year.

The main story is about the fight between Devara and his old friend Bhairava (played by Saif Ali Khan), who becomes greedy and wants to smuggle illegal weapons. Devara doesn’t like this and decides to fight against it, even teaming up with the Indian Coast Guard.

Things get even more complicated when Devara’s son, Varada, is tricked by Bhairava. This leads to a big fight between father and son, but in the end, they have to work together to defeat their common enemy.

A Blockbuster in the Making?

While it’s still early days, “Devara” is showing all the signs of becoming a major blockbuster. With its exciting action, popular stars, and strong opening at the box office, it’s likely to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
