When was the last time you heard your heart beating super fast? Lights Out will get on your nerves and I’m not even exaggerating. The plotline seems simple and quite ordinary on the outside but the constant jump scares and the haunting background music gets to you real easy.

Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello are expressive and effective in their performances while the cinematography and music are appreciable. The Diana spirit which appears only in the dark makes each scene more thrilling and gets you gulping tensely in the first fifteen minutes itself. It Follows follows around a bizarre curse dispersed from one person to another through sexual intercourse, and the person contaminated with this tribulation remains followed and haunted by a mystic supernatural entity continuation that typically annihilates people.

Correlating to the trend that is emerging in this contemporary era. It Follows never pursued the hackneyed route with ridiculous jump scares, indolent narration, and insipid direction. The retro narrative style was reminiscent of the 80s horror movies and the director brilliantly used the technical aspects like cinematography and background music to build up the tension in every peculiar and significant scene.

Altogether, It Follows enthralled me throughout the runtime and achieved a tremendous standard in the horror movie genre. It had that eerie inexplicable vibe circled it and is most definitely one of the Best Horror Movies on Amazon Prime India.

Mama is a 2013 Spanish-Canadian horror film co-written and directed by Andres Muschietti and stars Jessica Chastain in the lead role. With a 100-minute runtime, Mama is a decent scary film that has just a few horror elements to keep you engaged. Commendable performances by Chastain and her two kids keep the movie moving and is suitable for you to just watch it in the background on a busy weekend.

Horror seems to be Bollywood’s new vanilla, which is being blended seamlessly with different genres of cinema acting as other flavors. It was blended with comedy in Rajkummar Rao’s, Stree and Sohum Shah starrer, Tumbbad, does this with fantasy. Helmed by three directors – Rahi Anil Barve, Anand Gandhi and Adesh Prasad, Tumbbad is an off-beat blend of mythology, with a gory and dark narrative.

The movie may not appeal the faint-hearted. But it is a fantasy horror that certainly deserves a chance, for making huge strides in the right direction as far as Indian cinema is concerned. One of the Best Horror Movies on Amazon Prime India. – Anurag Rao
