She started her career by modelling for Kancheepuram silks, Erode silks and Lakshmi silks during her school years. In the 12th Standard, Tamil Director, Bharathiraja introduced her to the film industry.

She started her film career with her debut film in Kollywood called Kangalal Kaithu Sei alongside actor Vaseegaran. The one film which finally brought her much needed success and fame was Paruthiveeran, opposite Karthi. Her character Muthazhagu got her the National Award for Best Actress.
