Movie sparks controversy, removed from streaming platform

A movie called “Annapoorani” starring popular actress Nayanthara got into trouble right after it started streaming on Netflix. A complaint was filed saying the movie hurt people’s religious feelings. The complainant, who leads a group called Hindu IT Cell, said the movie disrespected Hindu beliefs.

What triggered the controversy?

A leader from Vishwa Hindu Parishad said the movie made fun of Lord Rama, suggesting he ate meat. They also complained the movie promoted something called “love jihad.” They told Zee Studios to take the movie off Netflix immediately, and Zee Studios said sorry and did so.

“Annapoorani” tells the story of a bright, ambitious woman from a Hindu family living in a traditional town. She wants to follow her dreams but also feels the pressure of her family’s strict beliefs. She doesn’t let social rules or religious differences stop her.
