Actress Namitha recently shared a distressing experience she encountered during a visit to the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. She claims she was questioned about her religion and asked to provide a “Hindu Certificate” to prove her faith.
Expressing her disappointment, Namitha highlighted that she has visited many temples across India but has never faced such humiliation. She voiced her concerns about how other tourists, particularly those from different states or countries, might be treated if even well-known personalities like her are subjected to such questioning.
Temple Authority’s Response
A senior temple official denied Namitha’s allegations, stating that she and her husband were stopped due to wearing masks. They were allowed entry after confirming they were Hindus and received kumkum on their foreheads.
Namitha’s Social Media Outcry
Namitha took to Instagram to share a video detailing her experience, expressing her feeling of alienation and the need to prove her Hindu identity. She also called for action against the officials involved and thanked the police for their assistance.
Upcoming Project
Namitha is set to appear in the upcoming film “Fire,” directed by Basheed S.K.
The incident has sparked a debate about religious discrimination and the treatment of visitors at places of worship.
