Nayanthara’s Delicious Dream Takes Flight on Netflix

Popular Indian actress Nayanthara, a star in the Tamil film industry for 20 years, had a busy 2023. She made her debut in Bollywood and also released several Tamil films. One of them, “Annapoorani,” just hit the streaming platform Netflix after playing in theaters.

A familiar face returns

“Annapoorani” is a light-hearted drama directed by Nilesh Krishnaa in his first time as a director. It tells the story of Annapoorani (played by Nayanthara), a young woman from a traditional Brahmin family who has big dreams of becoming a chef. But her path is blocked by her religious beliefs, which don’t always agree with her culinary ambitions.

This isn’t the first time Nayanthara has worked with her co-star Jai. They were also in the 2013 film “Raja Rani,” which was a big hit for Nayanthara and won her many awards.

A star-studded cast

The movie also features other well-known actors like Karthik Kumar, Sathyaraj, and Redin Kingsley. It was officially announced in July 2022 and filming started in April, wrapping up in September.

Music and milestones

During promotion, the filmmakers called “Annapoorani” an R Thaman musical. They even released the first song, “Ulagai Vella Pogiraal,” on Nayanthara’s 39th birthday in November 2023.

“Annapoorani” was also Nayanthara’s 75th film! However, it didn’t do very well at the box office. Made for a budget of 15 crore rupees (about $1.8 million), it only earned 3.94 crore rupees (about $470,000) in India. Interestingly, the streaming rights were originally with Zee5, but Netflix bought them last week.
