Shah Rukh Khan Finally Breaks Silence On Aryan Khan’s ‘Unpleasant’ Arrest; Begs Mani Ratnam For A Film

The King’s Ups and Downs: Shah Rukh Khan on Resilience and Hope

Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar currently riding high on the success of his 2023 mega-hits, recently opened up about the tough times his family faced in the last few years. At an award ceremony, he talked about how his movies flopped, analysts wrote him off, and then came the much-publicized arrest of his son Aryan Khan in 2021.

It was a rollercoaster ride for the Khans. Shah Rukh admitted most of his films went bad, leading some critics to declare his career on its way down, calling them “idiots” in a lighthearted moment. But beyond the box office blues, came a personal storm – the drug case involving Aryan. The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested Aryan on a cruise ship, thrusting him and the family into the harsh glare of media scrutiny.

Through it all, the Khans chose silence. They kept their heads down, navigated the legal battles, and eventually saw Aryan cleared of all charges and released after nearly a month. Reflecting on this painful period, Shah Rukh said, “Things got a bit messy, to say the least. But it taught me a valuable lesson: stay quiet, work hard with dignity. Life can knock you down when you least expect it, but that’s when you have to hold onto hope and keep telling your story.”

He ended his speech with a hopeful quote from his film “Om Shanti Om”: “Just like movies, real life has happy endings too. And if not, then the story is still not over, my friend.”

The evening wasn’t all introspection. There were lighter moments too! Shah Rukh, a self-proclaimed fan of filmmaker Mani Ratnam, openly pleaded for a chance to work with him again. Their last collaboration was the 1998 classic “Dil Se.” Shah Rukh, in a playful mood, declared, “I’m begging you, Mani! I’ll even dance on top of a plane again for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ if you say yes!”

Ratnam, with a twinkle in his eye, responded, “When you buy a plane, I’ll do it!” Shah Rukh, ever the quick wit, retorted, “Mani, my films are doing so well, that plane is not far away!” Ratnam playfully countered, “I’ll keep it grounded, don’t worry.” The two then shared a laugh, with Shah Rukh singing a line from another Ratnam film, “Jiya Jale,” as if to say, “I’m coming!” He ended the exchange with a promise, “Thank you, Mani sir, for the film! I’ll be there in March, ready for the morning shift at 2 am!”

So, while there were ups and downs, the evening highlighted Shah Rukh Khan’s strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. He faced challenges head-on, learned valuable lessons, and never lost sight of his love for family, work, and storytelling. And who knows, maybe soon we’ll see him dancing on top of a plane in a new Mani Ratnam masterpiece!
