Ranbir Kapoor’s On-screen Sister Saloni Batra Calls His Character TOXIC In Animal
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has roared to both critical acclaim and commercial success. With a box office collection exceeding Rs 300 crore and strong ongoing viewership, the film has secured its place as a cinematic triumph. While Ranbir Kapoor’s performance has garnered considerable praise, some have voiced criticism towards the character’s problematic traits. Saloni Batra, who portrays Ranbir’s elder sister in the film, recently offered her perspective on the controversy surrounding the character’s toxicity, sparking further discussion.
Addressing that criticism around the film, Saloni Batra, in an interview with DNA, said, “I am a facilitator. It’s my job as an actor to facilitate what an artist wants to bring to the table, who are the creators.” Saloni added that the creators had a vision of this character whose demeanour and nature are “toxic.” But the film is about him, and the director decided to tell it in his own unique style. The actress mentioned, “As an audience, it is our responsibility to watch and decide what is right and wrong. If that character is firing a gun in college, it doesn’t mean it’s right.”

The actress further stated that Ranbir’s character in Animal was not intended to inspire people and was only created to entertain. She stated, “The director is not being a teacher. He is an entertainer.” She stressed that it is the audience’s responsibility to not take the negativity of the character with them. “You came to the theatre and were entertained. And that is the job of cinema. You don’t have to learn from it. You don’t have to take it back home and tell people that it’s ok to say such things to women,” added Saloni.
Saloni further acknowledged the potentially offensive nature of Ranbir’s character from a woman’s perspective. However, she emphasized the reality of such individuals and the film’s portrayal of one such life story.
Regarding the possibility of an Animal sequel, Saloni expressed her hope and hinted at imminent news, stating, “I hope it’s happening. And we will all know for sure very soon.”
Animal, released worldwide on December 1st, features an ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, and others. The film delves into the complexities of a strained father-son relationship, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Vijay, an anti-hero willing to go to extreme lengths for his father, played by Anil Kapoor.
