Ajay Devgn vs. Akshay Kumar: Clash of the Titans on Eid 2024
Get ready for a box office showdown at the upcoming Eid festival! After facing several delays, Ajay Devgn’s sports drama “Maidaan” is finally set to hit the screens, but it’s not alone. The film, based on the legendary Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, will be locking horns with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s action bonanza “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.”
This isn’t the first time Ajay and Akshay have crossed paths at the box office. In fact, these two Bollywood heavyweights have clashed four times in the past 15 years, and the scorecard stands at a thrilling 2-2. Let’s rewind and revisit these past battles:
Round 1: 2009 – All The Best vs. Blue
Ajay’s comedy caper “All The Best,” directed by Rohit Shetty, took on Akshay’s high-budget sci-fi adventure “Blue.” While “Blue,” one of the most expensive films at that time, boasted impressive visuals, it couldn’t match the audience’s laughter. Devgn’s film emerged victorious, earning Rs. 41.41 crores compared to “Blue’s” Rs. 38.55 crores.
Round 2 & 3: 2010 – Diwali Dhamaka!
The year 2010 saw a double whammy as Ajay and Akshay clashed twice during major festivals. First, it was Diwali with “Golmaal 3” (Ajay) and “Action Replayy” (Akshay). Once again, Ajay’s Rohit Shetty magic worked, with “Golmaal 3” raking in Rs. 106.34 crores compared to “Action Replayy’s” Rs. 29.06 crores. However, the Christmas battle brought some relief for Akshay. His Farah Khan-directed “Tees Maar Khan,” though not a box office success, fared much better than Ajay’s animated venture “Toonpur Ka Superhero.” “Tees Maar Khan” managed Rs. 60.91 crores while “Toonpur Ka Superhero” could only muster Rs. 3.55 crores. So, 2010 ended with the score tied at 1-1.
Round 4: 2022 – A Diwali Dud for Both?
After a long break, the two superstars squared off again in 2022 during Diwali with “Thank God” (Ajay) and “Ram Setu” (Akshay). Neither film set the box office on fire, but “Ram Setu” edged out with a lifetime collection of Rs. 71.87 crores compared to “Thank God’s” Rs. 34.89 crores. The score became 2-2.
Clash of the Titans: Maidaan vs. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan
Now, we come to the upcoming Eid showdown. “Maidaan,” a biographical drama about a forgotten sporting hero, promises a different kind of experience compared to “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” a full-blown action thriller. Both films generate equal anticipation, making it difficult to predict the winner. Will Ajay’s underdog story resonate with the audience, or will Akshay and Tiger’s action-packed masala win the day?
While the head-to-head score stands at 2-2, the overall box office numbers tell a slightly different story. Ajay’s films in these clashes have collectively earned Rs. 186.19 crores, while Akshay’s films have raked in Rs. 200.39 crores.
So, who will walk away with the box office crown this Eid? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: this clash of the titans promises an exciting battle between two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, offering viewers a diverse range of cinematic experiences to choose from.
