Junaid Khan Talks About His Inspiring Role in “Maharaj”

Junaid Khan, son of the famous actor Aamir Khan, is enjoying the positive response to his recent film “Maharaj.” In a recent interview, he shared what drew him to the role and why he found it so meaningful.

Junaid played Karsandas Mulji, a journalist who lived in the 1800s. Mulji bravely exposed the wrongdoings of a powerful religious leader named Jadunathji Brijratanji Maharaj. This act of courage led to a famous court case in 1862.

“What really got me interested was that Karsandas Mulji was a real person,” Junaid explained. “He spoke out about issues that are still relevant today, even hundreds of years later. It’s something we see in our society, and it’s not unique to India. Back then, there wasn’t as much awareness about these things, so it’s truly inspiring that someone like him had the courage to fight for what was right.”

Junaid also revealed that he had been auditioning for film roles since 2017. When director Siddharth P Malhotra approached him with “Maharaj,” he was immediately drawn to the story. “The script was fantastic,” Junaid said. “I trusted Siddharth’s vision and knew he would do justice to this sensitive material.”

The film’s director, Siddharth P Malhotra, shared his own perspective on the project. He first encountered Junaid’s acting talent while watching a play several years ago. “The play was about a social worker named Vipul Mehta who fights for what’s right, even when it’s unpopular,” Malhotra explained. “It reminded me of an unsung hero, someone whose story deserved to be told. The play sparked the idea for this film, which explores themes of social justice, women’s rights, and standing up for what you believe in.”

After the script was finalized, Junaid was offered the lead role. The cast also includes Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari Wagh, and Shalini Pandey. “Maharaj” is currently available to watch on Netflix.

It’s important to note that the film faced some challenges due to its sensitive subject matter. The portrayal of a religious leader’s wrongdoings sparked controversy, leading the filmmakers to avoid traditional promotions and releasing a trailer before the film’s streaming debut.
