Riyan Parag: From IPL Hero to Hot Search Controversy

Riyan Parag, a young batsman for the Rajasthan Royals cricket team, recently found himself in hot water. During a live stream on YouTube, he accidentally showed his search history to everyone watching. This history included searches for Bollywood actresses Ananya Pandey and Sara Ali Khan, phrased in a way that some people thought was inappropriate (like “Ananya Panday hot”).

Screenshots of this search history went viral on social media, and a lot of people got upset with Parag. Even though he had a great season in the IPL 2024, scoring the most runs ever for a number four batsman (573!), this incident made some people forget about his achievements.

Here’s why Parag’s performance was so impressive:

• He beat the record for most runs scored by a number four batsman in a single IPL season, previously held by Rishabh Pant (547 runs in 2018).
• He’s actually the first player ever to score over 550 runs at number four in a single season!
• Despite some doubts about his position on the team, Parag was given the number four spot early in the IPL 2024 season under the captaincy of Sanju Samson, and he kept that spot all season.

However, things weren’t all sunshine and rainbows for Parag. After he got out during a very important match against the SunRisers Hyderabad on May 24th, former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar criticized him for his performance. Parag only scored 6 runs off 10 balls, and Gavaskar thought he made a bad decision about the shot he played. Gavaskar said things like, “Seriously? What’s the point of having talent if you don’t use your head? What kind of shot was that? So much talent, but if you can’t handle the pressure, it won’t work.”
