Fighter: Siddharth Anand Urges Respect For Indian Films Amidst Comparisons With Foreign Counterparts

Fighter: Soaring Beyond Comparisons

Hrithik Roshan takes flight as a fearless Indian Air Force officer in the highly anticipated film Fighter, hitting theaters on January 25th. But even before takeoff, the movie has faced turbulence in the form of comparisons to Tom Cruise’s iconic Top Gun.

Director Siddharth Anand, however, is unfazed. He acknowledges the similarities, but urges viewers to give Indian cinema its due credit:

“I think it is inevitable… As a filmmaker, you have to be prepared that if you make a film on planes, they will call it Top Gun because they have no reference point… We need to start looking at our films with a little bit more respect and not constantly believe that things are being ripped off.”

Anand emphasizes that inspiration transcends borders, and Western filmmakers often draw from Eastern stories. He even shares personal experiences of creating sequences later mirrored in big Hollywood productions.

“There are only that many things you can do in action, and there will be overlaps. You just got to do it with an X factor that makes it different.”

Fighter promises to be more than just high-octane action. It’s a tribute to the sacrifices and patriotism of the Indian armed forces, following the elite Air Dragons unit formed to combat threats in the Srinagar Valley.

Anand invites audiences to embrace the unique spirit of Indian cinema and appreciate the hard work poured into crafting original narratives. Fighter, he assures, will deliver an unforgettable experience that soars above comparisons, honoring the bravery and dedication of the Indian Air Force.
