CBFC Orders Diljit Dosanjh’s Jaswant Singh Khalra Biopic ‘Punjab 95’ To Make 120 Cuts, Change Title: Report

Censor Board Demands Major Changes to Diljit Dosanjh’s Movie “Punjab ’95”

The movie “Punjab ’95,” starring Diljit Dosanjh, is facing more trouble with India’s film censor board (CBFC). The movie tells the true story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist.

The CBFC had already asked for 85 changes to the film back in July. Now, they’re demanding even more changes – almost 120 in total! One of the biggest changes they want is to change the name of the main character, who is based on Khalra. They also want the title of the movie to be changed from “Punjab ’95” (which refers to the year Khalra died) to “Sutlej” (the name of a river in Punjab).

The filmmakers are refusing to make these changes. They say that Khalra is considered a hero by many people, and removing his name from the movie would be disrespectful to him, his family, and the entire Sikh community. They also argue that the movie wouldn’t be a true story anymore if they changed the main character’s name.

The CBFC also doesn’t want the movie to say it’s based on real events, because they think it could make people feel very emotional. They’ve asked for other changes too, like removing a religious hymn, any mention of Punjab or the district of Tarn Taran, and any references to Canada or the UK.

If the filmmakers agree to all these changes, the CBFC will approve the movie for release by the end of the week. The filmmakers are planning to meet with the CBFC today to try to convince them to allow some of the original content to stay in the film.

“Punjab ’95” also stars Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky. The filmmakers have been trying to get the movie approved by the CBFC since 2022.
