Akshay Kumar Addresses Criticism Of Releasing 4 Films In Year: ‘People Have Problem…’

Akshay Kumar is a prominent Bollywood actor known for his versatile roles in films spanning various genres. He began his career in the late 1980s as a martial arts trainer and later ventured into modeling. His acting debut came in 1991 with the film Saugandh. The actor gained recognition in the 1990s for his roles in action films such as ‘Khiladi’ series, ‘Mohra,’ and ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari.’ He established himself as a versatile actor, excelling in comedy, drama, and action genres. His notable films from the 2000s include ‘Hera Pheri,’ ‘Dhadkan,’ ‘Andaaz,’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.’ Now, he opened up about how negativity and constant scrutiny are impacting him.

In an interview with Galatta, Akshay discussed the challenges faced by actors, including relentless comparisons and harsh criticism. He compared the competitive environment to that of a racehorse, stating, “When they categorise an actor as number one or two, I feel like a Mahalaxmi ka ghoda running in a race. Hindi cinema produces about 190-200 films a year, and with the South film industry included, there are many films but just 8 to 12 leading actors. So why should we fight over who’s number one? Everyone has work. The whole idea is to just work.”

Addressing criticism about his work, Akshay Kumar remarked, “A lot of people question why I do 4 films a year. I don’t understand this. It’s the first time I’ve heard someone ask why I work so much. Have you ever heard anyone question why someone works? I do 4 films a year, and people have a problem with that.”

“Having been in the industry for so long, you develop thick skin, and nothing really affects you. However, it’s truly encouraging when a reputable critic gives their opinion. I listen attentively and value their feedback. Over time, you learn to distinguish between good and not-so-good critics. We are aware that certain aspects, including star ratings, can be manipulated. When I read reviews from reliable critics, I take their assessments seriously. Nowadays, it has become quite chaotic with anyone able to critique.”
